“They received the word with all willingness, and examined the scriptures daily to determine whether these things were so.”

Acts 17:11

I began writing this book with the intention of its being a short letter to my family and friends, but as you can see, it grew to be somewhat more than that. I wrote it to let my family and friends know that I left the Catholic Church for sound, important Biblical reasons and to show that I am not involved in a cult or anything like one. In this book I would now like to share that information with you so that you, too, may become aware of how the teachings of the Catholic Church presented here compare to the teachings of the Bible.

Please know that I have not written this book to judge or condemn anyone. I have written it out of love for my family, my friends, and others and for my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. My hope and prayer is that you will be encouraged to seek Jesus with all of your heart and to think about what you believe, know why you believe it, and consider the eternal consequences of your beliefs.

Because of the eternal consequences, much prayer has gone into this book, and I hope you take time to read it. I have made the entire text of the book available on this web site, as well as in soft cover.

Have you thought about these questions and why you believe what you believe?

  • How do the teachings of the Catholic Church compare to the teachings of the Bible?
  • Should tradition be accepted equally with Scripture?
  • Did all the Church Fathers have the same beliefs?
  • Is Mary the All-Holy One? Was she sinless her entire life?
  • Should we pray to the saints?
  • To whom should we confess our sins?
  • Are priests needed to mediate between God and man?
  • Do gifts and sacrifices still need to be offered for our sins?
  • Does the Eucharist forgive our sins?
  • Are we reconciled to God through penance?
  • Do our good works contribute to the forgiveness of our sins?
  • What is the gospel of the Catholic Church?
